TianYi Visit 2004

Wang TianYi, a student from Beijing Middle School #15, came to visit for a week. Joey stayed with TianYi's family when he was in Beijing. The Chinese students came with 'adopted' English names, so the American students called TianYi "Bill". This was a photo in the Tulsa World the day after the Chinese students and teachers arrived.
TianYi was an American boy while he was here. Here are Dave, TianYi, Joey, and Robbie playing basketball in our driveway.
All the students and teachers who participated in the China-US student exchange had dinner together at a local restaurant. The kids are standing with the principal of Byrd Middle School, Garry Nichols. The students went to a Driller's baseball game while they were here.
We decided to take TianYi out on the same outings we would take our own boys. So we took him to shoot skeet.
I don't know how this happened, but there were a lot of boys at my house one afternoon. They were still there at dinner time, so I fed them all. We went to eat at a typical American restaurant -- Fuddrucker's. A hamburger place.
Judy, Joey, TianYi, Dave, and Robbie. Robbie is Joey's best friend. This is why he is often with us. TianYi's family probably eats more American fast food than we do. He's used to eating pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and McDonald's. But I'm not sure he's ever had a root beer.
Another typical American outing..... miniature golf! Joey, Robbie and TianYi had a good time. There was some ceremony before the Driller's game that day, and the Chinese teachers presented our Mayor with a gift. Here is Vice Principal Wang, one of the Chinese teachers (who happens to speak great English), Mr. Nichols, and Mayor Bill LaFortune.
When Joey was in China, he played ping-pong with TianYi and his dad. Joey is very proud of the fact that he won (since he's only half-Chinese, and only has half the good ping-pong playing gene!) TianYi and Joey had a re-match at our house. I don't know who won. I cooked some Chinese food while TianYi was here. But sometimes, we just had American food. (Is pizza an "American" food?)
