We went to NYC this summer and met our good friends, Vlado and Milé Kanazirev, and their son, Ivo. We walked from the west side, through Central Park to get to the Art Museum. We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the exhibit of Mesopotamian art.
Judy's sister, Susan, was in charge of 'baby-sitting' the boys while Judy attended a conference.
We went to the American Museum of Natural History specifically to see the Einstein exhibit. There was also an exhibit on chocolate that the boys wanted to see. While Judy is in NYC, she cannot miss heading out to her favorite clubs. This is the famous Birdland.
We also went to the Blue Note in the Village to see Chuck Mangione. It was a great concert!
While the Kanazirevs were in NYC, we did all the usual tourist things. We walked around the financial district and came to South Street Seaport, where we had a lovely lunch. Then we took a tour on the Circle Line. This is the Brooklyn Bridge. The Manhattan Bridge is next to it, and you can see the Williamsburg Bridge further up the River. These bridges connect Manhattan Island with Brooklyn, spanning the East River.
There are several boat tours available from South Street Seaport. We selected one for "old people". The boat took a leisurely tour. There is another boat tour, called "The Beast". These are speedboats that zip around the harbor at speeds up to 45 mph. Susan took the boys on that tour. On the day we were leaving to go home, we decided to take a quick trip to the top of the Empire State Building. This is a view looking west.
This is a view looking down to the street. We are facing north.
We like to gather at Helen and Michael's home whenever we visit NYC. Here are Helen's children, Larry and Jordan Shakeshaft. Larry just graduated from Temple University in the spring. Jordan is attending Swarthmore. The little Chinese lady is Judy's mom, Ching Ho Chan.
This is Frank (Judy's brother) with his son, Christopher. John (Judy's brother) and Vino Chan
Andrew Chan (in the stripped shirt), John and Vino's son, with Aaron Waldman (Helen and Michael's son). Frank and Pauline with their children -- Joanna and Christopher, are visiting with Michael Waldman.
We have lots of little babies in the Chan clan. You can see Vino holding Leanne. Joey was filming all this activity. This is Andrew at home.
This was taken in Times Square, while we were walking back from Birdland. It was so crowded, and there wasn't anything special going on! This is normal for NYC, since the Broadway shows were just finishing and the audiences were coming out.
