Stuff 2003

Joey had an assignment - to make a model of a cell out of edible materials. The students had to think about all the parts of a cell, create their model, and then they ate the cells at school. Here is his cell. Chocolate graham crackers, regular graham crackers, mini M&Ms, strawberry licorice, cheese, colored frosting. I think there were some hot peppers in there as well.
Davey is happy because we got an ice cream cake for his birthday this year. Geof figured out how to use a remote control to take a photo from the digital camera, so they were just goofin' around.
There is a pond just down the hill from our house where Joey loves to go fishing. He and Davey will fish with lures, or they'll dig up worms for bait. Dave goes to Carver Middle School. This school has monitors who go around measuring how long the children's shirts are. They are only allowed to be 6 inches past their waistline. So Dave had to hem up a lot of his shirts. Instead of having mom do it, he learned to sew on the machine.
One of Geof's projects this summer was to paint the upstairs hallway and staircase. This was quite a challenge to try to reach the top. We bought a very tall ladder.... .... and he built this 'step' to stabilize his ladder on the stairs! Clever man!
Going to the grocery store one day, Judy found a kit to make a gingerbread house. Since we are not very good at baking the pieces of gingerbread necessary, we have never made one. But this kit made it simple! . On the very last day of 2002, Judy bought a Mac. The software that she uses to produce these CDs was offering a (50%) discount on the Mac version, so it made it reasonable to go cross-platform. It's a lovely laptop, but Judy is unfortunately, still a MacIdiot.
The boys were interested in two bowl games, and got tired of flipping stations. So they just put a small television on top of the larger one. Geof's Aunt Betty and her son, Stuart, came to visit this summer.
While Betty and Stuart were here, they went to watch Joey play a baseball game. Davey is keeping score for the team. We visited the new Aquarium in Jenks. These were very big fish!
I think we took this photo of the lobster because the boys are so fond of eating them. In the Aquarium, there is a museum with fishing poles, reels and tackle. All these items came from one family, who donated it to the Aquarium.
Here is one of many panels full of lures at the Fishing Equipment Museum associated with the aquarium. We decided to remove the carpet in the formal dining room and put in wood flooring. The boys were good helpers. Joey is removing some wood.
I think the boys had fun as our wrecking crew. The flooring came in pieces that snapped together.
The floor in the dining room looked so lovely, Geof offered to replace the office carpet with Pergo as well. We had to move the furniture out of Judy's office. Fortunately, the duper computer (the one we use to duplicate CDs) has a wireless network card, so we could still use it during the transformation.
A view of the new floor from Judy's office. Even though Judy looks like she's just being pretty, she helped with the floor a lot especially snapping the floor together when cutting wasn't needed.
We had a lot of bad luck with water this summer. We learned that we had some leaks in our sewer pipes. Two plumbers spent 4 days locating the leaks, and then 3 days fixing them. They had to jackhammer through our foundation. This is in our bathroom. Here, they cut through my floor, only to discover that the leak was not there! They cut this hole in front of my sink, but the leak was in front of Geof's sink. I was quite unhappy.
This was the last leak. It's in our sunroom. The plumbers were very careful to minimize the amount of tile they removed. Here is where the floor has been patched. It was four months before a construction contract was completed and all the floor repairs including new tile and a new shower were installed.
Foundation patches in front of our sinks. This year, we had planned to have 13 people at our house for a Thanksgiving celebration. Judy bought a 20 lb turkey. At the last moment, Sarah Biggs came down with the flu and they couldn't join us.
We like to use Grandma's china and silver for our Thanksgiving meal. Our good friends, Jim and Jodi Ellison came to celebrate with us. On the wall in the upper right of this photo, is one of Jodi's paintings.
